What is Epididymal Sperm Retrieval?

The epididymis is a specialised structure attached to the testicle where sperm are stored before ejaculation. In situations where a semen collection is no longer possible, sperm can be carefully harvested from the tail of the epididymis and processed for freezing.

Although epididymal sperm are considered less mature than ejaculated sperm and pregnancy rates may be lower, they still retain fertilising potential and can provide an invaluable opportunity to preserve important genetics.
